How to use Forbidden Words

Invite friends, choose two teams and describe your private card. Use your own call or enable direct voice in the room. Honest self-refereeing keeps this casual game friendly.

  1. Create a private room and invite friends. Pick Team A or Team B; each team needs at least one participant.
  2. The owner chooses the card language, seconds per turn and turns per team. Teams alternate; the describing role rotates within each team.
  3. The describer reveals a private card and gives clues without saying its target or forbidden words, their word forms, spelling, initials or translations. Teammates guess aloud.
  4. Mark a correct answer for +1 or a forbidden clue for −1. Up to three skips per turn score zero. Completed cards are revealed for review; the current card remains private.
  5. The owner advances closed turns. After the chosen number of turns for both teams, the higher total wins; equal totals are a draw.

Questions

Are these cards copied from a commercial game?

No. The deck contains original bilingual cards authored for Pevlika using ordinary words. This is a generic description game, with no third-party branding or artwork.

Who sees the current card?

Only the describing player stores its identity and salt. Other peers receive a cryptographic commitment. Finishing a card reveals its identity so the room can verify it was not changed. Completed cards and scores are public to participants.

Does the app referee speech?

No. The describer records correct answers, penalties and skips honestly, and the group can review completed cards. No speech recognition or cheating-proof claim is made. The protocol checks turn ownership, card commitments, skip limits and score arithmetic.

What happens if someone disconnects?

Technical coordinator migration preserves the certified public game when a connected quorum remains. Private current cards require the original describer tab. The owner can end an abandoned turn; completed-card points remain, and an unfinished card scores nothing.

Is voice required?

No. Use your own call or speak in the same room. Optional microphones send directly between peers. Some networks cannot connect without a TURN relay, which is not provided. Keep participating tabs open.
