Questions

Which hash should I use?

Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 for integrity checks and fingerprints. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes and are offered only for checking legacy checksums.

Can I use this to hash passwords?

No. Passwords need a slow, salted algorithm such as Argon2, bcrypt or scrypt. Plain SHA and MD5 hashes are far too fast to be safe for passwords.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Files up to 200 MB are read and hashed locally by your browser.
