Questions
How accurate are the sunrise and sunset times?
They use the NOAA solar calculation and are usually within a minute or two between the polar circles. Hills, buildings and unusual air temperatures can shift what you actually see by a few minutes.
What is the difference between civil, nautical and astronomical twilight?
Twilight is when the sun is below the horizon but still lights the sky. Civil twilight ends when the sun is 6° below the horizon, nautical at 12° and astronomical at 18°, after which the sky is fully dark.
Is my location sent anywhere?
No. “Use my location” asks your browser for permission and the calculation runs on your device. Your coordinates are not uploaded or stored.
What happens near the poles?
In summer the sun may never set (midnight sun) and in winter it may never rise (polar night). The calculator says so instead of showing a time.
