How to use Chemical Equation Balancer
Type an unbalanced equation, for example Fe + O2 = Fe2O3. The balancer finds the smallest whole-number coefficients and shows the atom check.
- Type reactants and products separated by = or →, with + between substances.
- Write charges with ^, for example Fe^3+ or SO4^2-, and electrons as e-.
- Read the balanced equation and confirm each element balances in the check table.
Questions
How does the balancer work?
It writes one equation per element (and one for charge) and solves them exactly with fractions, then scales to the smallest whole numbers. It does not guess or round.
Why can’t my equation be balanced?
Either an element appears on only one side, no positive coefficients conserve every atom, or the equation combines independent reactions. The message says which.
Do I need to remove existing coefficients?
No. Numbers in front of a substance are ignored and replaced by the calculated coefficients.
