Particles
Particles use the Avogadro constant, 6.02214076 × 10²³ per mole.
How to use Molar Mass Calculator
Type a chemical formula to get its molar mass, the mass percent of each element and a grams ↔ moles ↔ particles converter.
- Type a formula such as H2SO4, Ca(OH)2 or CuSO4·5H2O. Symbols are case-sensitive.
- Read the molar mass and the mass percentage of each element.
- Enter grams or moles to convert between mass, amount and number of particles.
Questions
How is molar mass calculated?
Each element’s standard atomic weight is multiplied by how many atoms of it the formula contains, and the results are added. Brackets multiply everything inside them; a dot adds a hydrate or adduct.
Why must symbols use capital letters?
Case tells elements apart: Co is cobalt, but CO is carbon monoxide. Every symbol starts with a capital letter.
Does an ion’s charge change its molar mass?
Only negligibly. An electron weighs about 0.00055 g/mol, so charges written as SO4^2- are shown but do not change the result at the precision shown.
