How to use Expression Simplifier
Type an expression to expand it, combine like terms and cancel common factors. The factored form is shown when it differs.
- Type an expression such as (x+1)^2 - (x-1)^2 or (x^2-1)/(x-1).
- Read the simplified result.
- Check the factored form and copy either one.
Questions
What does simplifying do?
It expands products and powers, adds like terms, cancels factors common to a numerator and denominator, simplifies square roots of numbers and rationalises simple denominators.
Does it handle functions?
Yes. Terms such as sin(x) or ln(x) are treated as single units, so sin(x) + sin(x) becomes 2sin(x). Exact values such as sin(π/6) = 1/2 are recognised.
