How to use Inequality Solver
Type an inequality such as x^2 - 5x + 6 > 0 or (x-1)/(x+2) ≥ 0. The answer is shown in interval notation and on a number line.
- Type the inequality using <, >, <= (≤) or >= (≥).
- The solver finds the critical points and tests the sign between them.
- Read the interval notation; filled dots are included, open dots are not.
Questions
Why is a point excluded even with ≤?
Values that make a denominator zero are never part of the solution, because the expression is undefined there.
What does the ∪ symbol mean?
Union: the solution is the combination of the intervals on either side, for example (−∞, 2) ∪ (3, ∞).
