Questions

Is my text or search sent anywhere?

No. Words are looked up in dictionary files your browser downloads, and checking runs on your device. Searches live in the address bar after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.

Where do the definitions come from?

Definitions, synonyms and antonyms come from Princeton WordNet 3.1 and pronunciations from the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary, both freely licensed. Inflected forms such as “went” or “mice” lead to their base word.

Why do some words have no antonym?

Many words — like “table” or “blue” — have no true opposite. The finder says so rather than inventing one.
