Questions
Is my text or search sent anywhere?
No. Words are looked up in dictionary files your browser downloads, and checking runs on your device. Searches live in the address bar after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.
What does it check?
Common confusions (its/it’s, your/you’re, there/their, then/than, could of), a or an, agreement such as “they was”, past participles such as “have went”, capitalisation, missing apostrophes, doubled words, spacing and punctuation — plus spelling.
Is it as thorough as a human editor?
No. It uses careful rules that rarely flag correct writing; it does not rewrite style or tone. Read your text through as well.
