Choose a synonym that fits the sentence
Bright can describe light or intelligence. “A bright lamp” calls for a word such as luminous; “a bright student” calls for clever. Read the definition above a synonym group before substituting a word. Related words are not interchangeable in every sentence.
The part-of-speech filter separates nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Direct antonyms name an opposite recorded for that meaning; similar, broader and more specific terms describe relationships rather than exact replacements. The app preserves those distinctions instead of presenting every word as a synonym.

Questions
Is my text or search sent anywhere?
No. Words are looked up in dictionary files your browser downloads, and checking runs on your device. Searches live in the address bar after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.
Where do the definitions come from?
Definitions, synonyms and antonyms come from Princeton WordNet 3.1 and pronunciations from the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary, both freely licensed. Inflected forms such as “went” or “mice” lead to their base word.
Why are synonyms grouped?
Words have several meanings. “Bright” can mean shining or clever, and each sense has different synonyms, so they are listed per meaning.
