How to use Inclinometer
Press Start and place the phone on the object. Pitch, roll and total incline update live; set zero to measure relative to a reference.
- Press Start and allow motion access.
- Place the phone flat on the object; read pitch (front/back) and roll (left/right).
- Tap “Set zero here” on a reference surface to measure relative angles.
Formula & assumptions
- Readings come straight from your device’s sensors and stay on this device. Phone sensors are approximate; use a dedicated instrument where accuracy matters.
Questions
What is the difference between pitch and roll?
Pitch is the front-to-back tilt (nose up or down); roll is the side-to-side tilt. Total incline combines both into the steepest tilt from horizontal.
Is an inclinometer the same as a clinometer?
They measure the same physical angle. “Inclinometer” usually means a two-axis tilt reading; a clinometer is used for slopes and sighting heights.
